second observation at writing center


                                                                      Second observation

My second observation was different from the fist one. The student came in and it seems like he was really excited and happy to be at the writing center. The tutor intrude himself, then he introduce me to the student that i am here to observe the student was new in lagcc. He is going to take the CAT W exam so he was at the writing center to write a good unique essay.The tutor asked the student what was his assignment was all about.The student seems to understand what was his assignment was about, He had problem having argument about his thesis. His main problem was that he couldn't give reasons and evidence to support his thesis.  it was so awkward when the tutor ask the student to give a reason why he choice this thesis and the student didn't say anything instead he was laughing for no reason. So the tutor helped the student to find reasons and evidence from the article. During the session most of the time the student was laughing and smiling for no reason, I didn't understand why he was acting that way. The student needs help where to use the right quote in the essay.He also need help with having a clear topic sentence in every paragraph. He had some really useful and good information but didn't know how to organize the information in a good way.The tutor give the student very useful hand out it was worksheet that shows the correct for-mate of an essay. The tutor was really helpful because he explained the student in details when to use quote and how to have a strong thesis with strong evidence, It seems like the tutor really cared about the student passing the CATW exam. I think its a good idea to give students hand out which will help them develop a good essay. Some hand outs can be really useful for student. The tutor shared outside information with the student by giving the worksheet.
